A Closer Look At The 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV

Electric trucks have come a long way in a short time. The 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV proves that going electric does not mean giving up what makes a truck useful. With a towing capacity that reaches 12,500 pounds and a payload rating up to 1,800 pounds, this full-size pickup handles serious work. At the same time, it delivers something traditional trucks cannot match: an EPA-estimated range of up to 493 miles on a single charge.
At East Hills Chevrolet of Roslyn, we are excited to show Long Island drivers what the Silverado EV can do. Located at 1036 Northern Boulevard in Roslyn, New York, we have been helping customers find the right truck since 1984. Whether you need a workhorse or a daily driver, this EV deserves a close look.
What Is New for 2026
For 2026, the Silverado EV lineup gains a new member that off-road enthusiasts have been waiting for. The Trail Boss trim finally makes its way to dealerships after Chevrolet first showed it off a few years ago. This version rides on a factory lift and rolls on 18-inch wheels fitted with 35-inch all-terrain rubber. Red tow hooks peek out from a reshaped front bumper, and drivers get a special Terrain mode dialed in for dirt, rocks, and everything in between.
Otherwise, the Silverado EV carries over with the same capable platform that launched a few years ago. For shoppers who do not need the latest and greatest, previous model years offer similar capability at a lower price point.
Power and Performance
Underneath the sheet metal, two electric motors do the work. Power output varies by trim. The base Work Truck starts with 510 horsepower. Step up to the LT, and that number climbs to 760 horsepower in its highest configuration. The Trail Boss splits the difference with up to 725 horsepower.
All versions come with all-wheel drive as standard. That means you get traction in rain, snow, or loose surfaces without checking a box or paying extra. For drivers who want even more capability, an optional rear-wheel-steering system helps this big truck maneuver in tight spaces. An adaptive air suspension is also available, smoothing out rough roads and adjusting ride height as needed.
How quick is it? The now-discontinued RST model we saw tested hit 60 miles per hour in just 4.1 seconds using its Wide Open Watts drive mode. The LT is nearly as fast, turning in a 4.2-second run. Even the base Work Truck feels lively, with an estimated 5.4-second sprint to 60 mph.
Range and Charging
Battery choice determines how far you can go between charges. The Silverado EV comes with three battery options: Standard, Extended, and Max. With the Max pack, the entry-level Work Truck earns an EPA-estimated 493 miles of range. That is enough to drive from New York City to Pittsburgh without stopping to charge.
The LT with the Extended battery is rated for 410 miles of range. The Trail Boss matches that figure. Opt for the Max pack in the LT or Trail Boss, and range climbs to a GM-estimated 478 miles.
Charging speeds impress as well. Chevrolet says 10 minutes at a public DC fast charger adds 100 miles of range. In real-world testing, one model set a fast-charging record by averaging 198 kilowatts from 10 percent to 90 percent, taking just under an hour.
Towing and Payload
Numbers matter for truck buyers. The Silverado EV maxes out at 12,500 pounds of towing capacity. That puts it within 800 pounds of the gasoline-powered Silverado. Payload varies by configuration. The Trail Boss trim handles up to 2,100 pounds of cargo in the bed, while other trims top out at 1,800 pounds.
For tradespeople and weekend warriors alike, those figures mean this electric truck can handle boats, trailers, and heavy loads without breaking a sweat. Chevrolet has also promised that a model with 20,000 pounds of towing capacity will join the lineup down the road.
Interior and Technology
Inside, the cabin seats five adults comfortably. Passenger space matches what you would find in a regular Silverado crew cab. Front legroom measures 44.9 inches, while rear legroom comes in at 44.4 inches. That is generous even for tall passengers.
The tech setup stands out. Every Silverado EV comes with an 11.0-inch digital gauge cluster and a massive 17.7-inch center touchscreen. The infotainment system runs on Google-based software, meaning Google Maps comes built in. One thing to note: Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not available. Chevy has moved to native navigation on its EVs, though climate controls remain simple analog knobs.
For 2026, the LT and Trail Boss trims offer GM’s hands-free Super Cruise system. That allows for true hands-free driving on compatible highways, making long trips less tiring.
For those considering other Chevrolet trucks, the 2026 Chevrolet Silverado with traditional gas power remains an option for buyers who prefer a conventional powertrain.
Cargo and Storage
One of the cleverest features is the front trunk. With 11 cubic feet of space, it offers secure, lockable storage for tools, groceries, or a weekend bag. The five-foot, 11-inch cargo bed features a pass-through called the Multi-Flex Midgate. Fold it down, and the bed extends to over nine feet, letting you carry lumber, kayaks, or other long items with the tailgate closed.
Safety and Warranty
Chevy equips every Silverado EV with a suite of driver-assist technology right from the base model. The system watches for pedestrians ahead and can brake on its own if needed. It also keeps an eye on lane markings, alerting the driver when the truck starts to wander and gently steering back into position. Cruise control that adjusts speed to match traffic flow comes standard as well, not reserved for higher trims.
When it comes to protecting your investment, Chevrolet offers straightforward coverage. The Silverado EV comes with a limited bumper-to-bumper warranty that runs three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. Powertrain protection extends to five years or 60,000 miles. The high-voltage battery pack carries its own separate coverage lasting eight years or 100,000 miles. Buyers also get the first scheduled maintenance stop at no charge, which includes a tire rotation and a multi-point inspection of the battery cooling system and drive units.
For those seeking a midsize truck alternative, the New 2026 Chevrolet Colorado offers impressive off-road capability in a smaller package.
Is the Silverado EV Right for You
The 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV makes a strong case for going electric without sacrificing truck capability. Range numbers lead the segment. Towing and payload figures come close to gas-powered trucks. And the new Trail Boss trim adds off-road credibility for those who venture beyond pavement.
